Dear Pastor,

I pray you had a blessed Christmas and New Year’s holidays. We had a wonderful time with family in Wisconsin. Like us, all are back to their usual responsibilities; like you, the work continues.

The “Red Books” which provide the contact information for the legislators will be available on our web site by the end of this week. There will be some new faces such as:

  • Del. Roxann Robinson (R) 27th district (part of Chesterfield Co.)
  • Del. Tony Wilt (R) 26th district ( Rockingham Co.; Harrisonburg)
  • Del. Gregory Habeeb (R) 8th district (Salem; part of Roanoke Co.)
  • Delegate to be elected from the 91st district (Poquoson; part of York Co. and Hampton) to replace Tom Gear who resigned due to health reasons. This election will be held on March 8.
  • Sen. William Stanley, Jr (R) 19th district (Danville; part of Franklin & Pittsylvania Cos.)

We have already been in the offices of Delegates Robinson and Wilt, as well as reconnecting with most of the other legislators from last year.

We are reviewing legislation and preparing strategies to defeat or defend bills which impact you and your church. Dr. Knapp and I have spent hours reviewing over 500 bills. We have also discussed strategies and how I should approach “speaking to” these bills in committees. Some of our concerns are:

  • Senate bills 747 and 797 and House Bill 1509 to provide special protection and nondiscrimination for “sexual orientation” (oppose)
  • House Bill 1409 to protect prayer at public events (support)
  • House Bill 1428 to license abortion clinics (support)

Thank you for your prayers for us and for the legislators. Pray for:

  • God’s leading
  • Open doors and hearts of the legislators as we talk with them
  • Wisdom and power as we speak in Committee meetings

Thank you for being a part of this ministry.

In His Service,

Eddy Aliff
