Rejoicing in Heaven
“I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth...” (Luke 15:7
).
I have never really been a farmer and had the responsibility of preparing a field, sowing the seed, and waiting for the harvest. With all the modern-day equipment for plowing, most of the hard work is done by machinery. I wonder if the harvest was more enjoyable when more labor went into the preparation of the ground to receive the seed.
The hillside around our home shows evidence of those early days as many property lines are determined by the stone walls that surround them. Many of those stones came from the ground itself in preparation for sowing.
Being a sower is not a glamorous job, but it surely yields a tremendous reward. Times of plodding are slow and often uneventful, but I rejoice in having the privilege of moving boulders, plowing ground, sowing seed, sprinkling water, and sometimes, harvesting for Christ.
