The entire Melton Family currently serves as Missionariesunder Baptist World Mission in Nagoya, Japan. Tim is the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church (CBC) which is located in the Tenpaku Ward of Nagoya City.
Tim first came to Japan in 1965 with his parents who were missionaries. He grew up in Japan and lived there until he returned to the States for college at 17. After Tim and Kim were married, they spent their first summer together helping his parents as summer missionaries. In 1999 they returned to Japan as short term missionaries to replace Tim’s dad and brother during their furloughs. In 2002 the Lord called them to be full-time missionaries to Japan.
Tim visited our church 26 September 2010 where he shared his missions presentation and then preached the evening message. Everyone had a great time of fellowship with Tim and got to know him much better during his short stay with us.

We arrived back safely on May 27. Thank you for you prayers. We arrived at the Central Japan International Airport without incident. The almost 20-hour trip went as smoothly as a 20-hour trip can go. Frank and Judy Musk, as well as my parents, were there to greet us when we arrived. Our coworker, Bekah Kuehlman, happened to be returning from a wedding and came in just before we did. It is not that we are unthankful for all the gracious hospitality we experienced during our furlough, but after a year of traveling, it was so nice to be back in our own beds.
Furlough? In about ten months of traveling, we covered about 40,000 miles by car and close to another 6000 miles by air. We traveled as far south as Tampa, Florida, as far west as Las Vegas, Nevada, as far north as Watertown, Wisconsin, and as far east as Georgetown, Delaware, and many places in between.
Mike McGowan Mike just joined our ministry here in Nagoya. Among other things, he will be working with us in our ministry to college students in our area. There are four major universities within a few miles of the church, and we have been seeking to develop a ministry to reach them for a few years now. We have been out the past three days apartment hunting for Mike. Please pray that the Lord will lead him to the right place.
Tsunami Victims - Please continue to pray for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in north central Japan. We are planning a trip to see how we can help in the rebuilding effort of the ministries in the affected areas. Dan Roberts continues to be our point man, making regular trips into areas still with great physical need and even greater spiritual need. Dan shared with us that the need is greater in some respects, as they are being moved from the schools, community centers, and shelters into private temporary housing that the government has built for them. When they were together, they encouraged each other, but now that they are being separated, the struggle seems to be more difficult. Please pray the people would be willing to reach out for the spiritual help they so desperately need.
Bekah Kuehlman Bekah has successfully finished her first year of language training and will be working to develop our children’s ministry, as well as working with the ladies. The Lord has given her a nice apartment and car, and we are looking forward to how He will use her. Pray for her continued language studies and physical strength.
Frank & Judy Musk We thank the Lord again for the ministry of Frank and Judy Musk in our absence. They not only held things together, but had a great ministry at CBC and NIBC.
Church BBQ We had our beginning-of-summer church BBQ. After a combined Japanese/English church service, we all went out in the church yard and cooked a Japanese BBQ on real wood coals. Many agreed that the flavor was better than when we cooked on the gas grill, though it was much slower. I didn't tell them that the decision was made because I forgot to get the propane tank filled. What they didn't know didn't hurt them.
Father’s Day This year there was a new father to honor on Father’s Day. Loh and Min, who have been working in our English church in our absence, are expectng their first child in October. If the child in the womb is a child, then the father is a father. So, Loh received one of the beautiful pieces of individually wrapped, store-bought cakes the church gave to all the fathers this year. When Min saw it she said, “I’ll take that,” but there were extras so he got to eat his own piece. Prayer Requests
Thank you so much for your prayers for the people of Japan. The disasters seem to be piling up the earthquake caused damage and loss of lives
the tsunami caused even more damage and more loss of lives
the nuclear emergency threatens to cause even more damage and potential loss of lives
the weather in the hardest hit areas, where rescue is most needed, has turned very cold and snow has fallen
but the most devastating tragedy is the danger that almost the entire population of Japan faces: hell and eternal damnation.
In addition to the temporal needs, please pray earnestly for the spiritual eyes of the Japanese people to be open and that they will be receptive to the message of the Gospel as never before.

We are finishing up our furlough and have tickets to return to Japan on May 26th. We eagerly await the opportunity to return to the work the Lord has called us to in Japan.
You servant for Christ,
Tim Melton Serving in Nagoya, Japan Baptist World Mission
We just wanted to update everyone on the earthquake and consequent Tsunami that hit Japan Friday afternoon (about midnight EST). I called my Father and the Musks, who are replacing us during our furlough, and they are both fine. Please pray for those in the northern areas of Japan (on the main island of Honshu) who are affected. Even though Japan is probably the most prepared Asian country, there will likely be hundreds and possibly thousands of deaths and massive clean-up needs. I will keep you informed as I know new information.
Your servant for Christ,
Tim Melton Serving in Nagoya, Japan Baptist World Mission
Summer Is Passing! Furlough Continues. Thank you so much for your faithful prayers and support. We arrived safely back in the US to begin our furlough the end of May. June - Got over jetlag, rested, and got many needed supplies, including a vehicle. July - Reported to a couple of supporting churches and spent time with Kim’s family. August - Reported to another church, spent some time as a family, then put Rachel in school for her freshman year of college at BJU and Jonathan for his senior year.
Report From Japan Bekah reports that all is well with the ministries in Japan. Though they have faced several challenges, the Lord continues to give grace. They had a good summer with reports from missionaries whom CBC supports and a couple of camps in addition to the regular church services.
Frank and Judy Musk, our replacement during the rest of our furlough, will be arriving in Japan September 22. Please pray that they will be a blessing and help to the people at Calvary Baptist Church (Japanese) and Nagoya International Baptist Church (English).
Prayer Updates Ongoing Needs - God “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20 ). Eph 3:20 (KJV) As I visited a couple of our supporting churches, I realized that some prayer requests needed to be updated. Some churches were praying for things that had already been answered, so I would like to update you on the requests we have given over the past year.
ANSWERED PRAYERS: Mark and Rhanda Smith have decided to serve the Lord stateside and are no longer considering Japan as a field of service. Bekah joined us in Nagoya in February 2010. The Musks have consented to replace us during our furlough and will be arriving in Nagoya the end of September. Rachel was able to get a flute for college. Yasuyo (a young lady at CBC for five years) got a job teaching in a Christian high school in the Tokyo area. The storm damage was repaired, and our house in the US sold (though we took quite loss, we are trusting the Lord to supply). Mike McGowan, who will be working with us, was able to take a break from his deputation activities and replace the Zemkes in Hokkaido during their furlough. The Lord has provided us a nice minivan for use during on furlough. Though we have been in several different places, the Lord has graciously provided for our furlough housing. The Lord has provided for Jonathan to start his senior year and for Rachel to start her freshman year. We know that what God has called them to, He is able to see them through. With the yen at near record lows again, and increasing prices and increasing needs, our mission board informed us that we need about $1500 in additional monthly support. Please earnestly pray that the Lord will allow us to raise that amount by the end of our furlough. Continued safety as we travel thousands of miles to report to our supporting churches. Mike McGowan’s support to continue to increase so that he can come to work in Nagoya with us very soon (if not immediately) after he has finished furlough replacement for the Zemkes (June 2011).
